Alyson Montplaisir, MSW, LICSW

Hi there! My name is Alyson. I am a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker. I earned my bachelor’s degree in Social Work from Saint Cloud State University and my master’s degree in Social Work through Augsburg University. I have extensive experience in crisis intervention therapy by way of working in emergency rooms and as a co-responder with law enforcement. I work with adults of all ages through telehealth sessions. I genuinely enjoy being a therapist and feel privileged for the opportunity to journey with clients toward their goals.

How I Work

You’re the expert in your life and you’re the one who lives your life each day. I will honor what is meaningful to you to work toward as your therapy goals. I believe that if it’s important to you, it’s important! I will ask questions to challenge you to look at things differently or deeper than you may have before. There is no “right way” to meet your therapy goals and we will collaborate to find what works best for you. My ultimate goal is for you to improve your quality of life and get to know yourself better in the process.

I have a lot of different tools in my therapy toolbelt to help us in working toward your therapy goals. I often utilize cognitive and dialectical behavioral therapies to take a closer look at the connection between our thoughts, feelings and behaviors and to feel more aware and in-control of them in our daily lives. I provide practical skills and strategies to use to alleviate problematic symptoms. Like most things in life, skills and therapy tools are not a “one size fits all” and we will work together to find what works best and makes sense for your life.

What Sets Me Apart As a Therapist?

I am my authentic self during sessions. I’m a humorous, kind, caring human. I don’t have it all figured out but I try to do the best I can each day! I love to laugh and use humor in sessions when it allows itself. I am a naturally curious person and I love to ask questions and soak in new information.

I enjoy going to the thrift store and recycling fashion. I love a good music playlist or podcast episode. I travel as much as I can and going anywhere with an ocean view is my favorite!

As a bonus: It’s possible that you may see my cat Fitz pop up on screen sometimes, he is also naturally curious!
