Amy Hilburger, PsyD, LP

amy@affinitypsych.com

Welcome! My name is Amy and I am a licensed psychologist here at Affinity. I most enjoy working with adults who want to change their thinking to live a more intentional life. I also work with minorities, women, and the LGBTQ+ community. And please tell me about your pets, as I love all animals, but especially cats – I believe that the animal/owner bond is curative!

How I Work

In therapy, you and I will thoroughly examine your history and determine any appropriate diagnoses. From there, if you need clarification or further education on what that diagnosis involves, we will engage in psychoeducation. I believe the core of therapy is working to get off “auto-pilot” by improving mindfulness and awareness of automatic thoughts. Once mindfulness is improved, we can work together to change distorted thoughts into something more rational/realistic. I want to help you feel more regulated, or calm, when strong emotions present themselves. You will know therapy is working when you can recognize cognitive distortions and feel a greater sense of distress tolerance for intense emotions.

What Sets Me Apart As a Therapist?

It is critical for you to find a “good fit” therapist. My strengths include great empathy, a non-judgmental stance, and relatability. As I stated previously, I also believe humor in therapy, when appropriate, is a great pressure release. I will help you to feel comfortable, find the strength to confront your issues, and work toward lasting change.
