Hello! My name is Barb Curran and I’m a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. I received my master’s degree in Counseling and Psychotherapy from Adler Graduate School and I hold the belief that everyone is creative, resourceful, and able to grow and change. Therapy is my third career; prior to being a therapist, I taught dance, ran a daycare, and spent 20 years in medical research. I enjoy hiking, kayaking, playing games, and reading. I love to connect with others and share their journey towards a healthier and more balanced life. I have additional training in ADHD management for all ages, child-centered play therapy, and Prepare/Enrich®. I look forward to helping you explore and grow toward the life you really want!
How I Work
I have a strong belief that where we came from has a strong influence on what we believe about ourselves and the world around us. Understanding these influences helps us understand why we respond how we do so that we can choose to do things differently. I totally get that it can be challenging and scary to explore the past! In sessions, I will listen closely, reflect back what I see and hear, and help you move toward health and balance. I recognize that the true work is being done by my clients, so I will walk with you each step of the way on your journey.
What Sets Me Apart As a Therapist?
My friends and clients tell me that I am a great listener. I have a lot of empathy for those facing challenges and traumas from the past, and I know what it is like to struggle as a parent, partner, and professional. I love brain science and sharing the ‘why’ behind the ‘what’ for those who are interested (okay, I also have to confess that I love all things Star Trek). I am also known to have a sense of humor, so do not be surprised if there is a bit of laughter in our sessions!
