Chelsea Murphy, MA, LPCC

chelsea@affinitypsych.com

Hey there! I’m Chelsea (she/her/hers), a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor in Minnesota. I have a Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology from University of St. Thomas and an undergraduate degree from St. Olaf College. Since getting my MA, I’ve worked in Private Practice and University College Centers providing individual and group therapy on a wide range of topics and issues.

I especially love providing therapy for folks who are struggling with relationship issues, family of origin trauma and shame. I believe that in helping you move through your struggles, you can clear space & no longer be held back from doing exactly what you love in this world.

How I Work

I like to keep things pretty informal (you will definitely see me with my shoes off in the office!). My approach tends to be on a person-to-person level, rather than having a doctor-patient vibe. I believe diagnoses and treatment plans can be helpful sometimes, but not others as we all have struggles that exist outside of a medical point of view.

I believe in caring for the WHOLE person, leaning into a mind-body approach in most of my work. Mind-body in a therapy context means I might recommend that you get some bodywork done (massage, acupuncture, sound therapy etc.) if you are working through something really heavy – trauma is held in the body. Or that if you’re having chronic headaches, I might encourage you to start noticing when those arise more to see what your body might be signaling as worrisome or upsetting.

My number one priority is that you never feel judged, no matter what. We are all beautifully imperfect people and I want you to feel free to show up exactly as you are to our sessions (yoga pants, snacks, and messy hair accepted & encouraged!).

What Sets Me Apart As a Therapist?

I strongly believe there is no right or wrong way to go through life. Thus, I, therefore, believe there is no right or wrong way to do therapy. We will figure out together what the best style for you is.

I use a lot of humor in session and I’ve got a super loud laugh – I’ve definitely been told I need to keep it down sometimes inside and outside work (I am rarely successfully complying with this)!

You and I will click if you love digging into the deeper stuff and want to experience your world fully. I’m a curious, lifelong learner and if you are too, I’m eager to dive in with you.

People I’m close to would tell you I’ll offer you “no bullshit” advice with a lot of compassion & care. Feeling free, increasing confidence, and dropping shame so you can step into the brightest version of yourself are my biggest goals for you.

If these things sound like your jam, reach out, and let’s set up as a time to connect. I am excited to meet you!
