Hi there. I’m Devan!
I have a master’s in psychology from the University of Minnesota, and I’m trained in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy as well as Attachment, Regulation, and Competency (ARC). I enjoy working with a wide variety of people, but I specialize in work with children 6+ and their families with an emphasis on trauma. I did community-based therapy work with children, families, and workers in the foster care system for five years and know a lot about it as a result. Because of this experience, I see presenting symptoms as very interdependent and take a holistic approach. I want to see as much of the picture as possible by collaborating with many members of the family system.
How I Work
In session, you can expect to start off with a check-in of how you’re doing. Then, you will lead the session. If you want me to lead a bit more, I can do that, but I prefer to go at my client’s pace. At the end, we’ll reflect on what we talked about that day and what to work on moving forward. I enjoy the structure of a beginning and ending ritual but will flex on that as needed. I will always have ideas of things we could work on but will be flexible to your perspective as the expert on your life. I see our work together as collaborative. I will adapt to your needs, and you can expect me to be transparent with you about the process.
What Sets Me Apart As a Therapist?
I believe it’s important to challenge my clients and be honest with them, and I expect them to challenge me and be honest with me. I work best with others who need that in our relationship. I will not shy away from uncomfortable or intense conversations unless you as my client need that at the moment.
