Welcome!

I work with adults of all ages and all backgrounds going through major disruptions in life.

In particular, I have a lot of experience working with college students, young adults, and middle-aged adults dealing with concerns around identity, career, and purpose. My background includes an MA in Counseling Psychology from the University of St. Thomas and a BS in Accounting from the University of Northwestern St. Paul.

While I don’t lean on humor in therapy quite as much as I do in my personal life, anyone who knows me knows how much I love to make people laugh. I particularly loved the comedy of Norm Macdonald (RIP), who put it best when he said “Being alive is the greatest gig there is. You can eat at Denny’s, wear a hat; you can do anything you can dream of.”

How I Work

Sessions with me will typically focus on connecting and reflecting. I believe a close and supportive relationship is central to therapy and that, by reflecting on the problems of the week, we can often learn a lot about big-picture patterns of behavior and the underlying things contributing to our stress. In other words, how does an incident from last week connect to the one from six months ago?

While my approach might come across as more intellectual and analytical, I value connection in therapy above everything else. To put that another way, it brings me a ton of joy to see people overcome things that once felt impossible! I’ve had the opportunity to witness this more than a few times in my work, and it’s always inspiring to me to see someone overcome a big challenge in their life.

What Sets Me Apart As a Therapist?

People are often surprised by how good my memory is, and I think this helps me consider what a person is experiencing in relation to the big picture. While I believe it’s important to get down to the root of problems, I also think we can find a lot of insight from unexpected places, which means I’m always willing to explore a “detour” when it comes up in conversation.
