Welcome! I’m Heidi. I’m a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor with a Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology.
I enjoy working with adolescents, young adults, LGBTQIA+ individuals, and anyone who is trying to figure out who they are and how to navigate the world in a healthier and more fulfilling way. If you struggle to manage worry, anger, or depression, feel lost, or out of control I’m here to help. I want to help you navigate potential value clashes with people that are important to you, and build confidence in who you really are.
It can be challenging to go through the process of finding a therapist that you can connect with, so I wanted to share a bit about myself. I was born and raised in Minnesota, come from a large family and am a new parent. Being a therapist suits my personality well because I love spending my day talking with people and connecting with others.
When I’m not working I love coffee, reading, baking, competition reality TV, and a good pop culture reference – which means that yes, I’ve probably seen the same TikTok trend you have lately.
How I Work
I believe that progress in therapy is deeply linked to feeling understood, valued, and supported by your therapist. My role in the therapy process is to create an environment that helps you feel safe to be vulnerable and make change. When you know better you can do better, so I will help you generate insight, look at things from different perspectives, develop and adopt healthier patterns, and find tools that actually work for managing your mental health.
You are welcome to come to therapy as you are, in fact, I encourage it! One of my favorite parts of what I do is getting to know and understand you on a deep level. I recognize that you are doing the best you can, and there is nothing that you can say, feel, or do that will cause me to be unsupportive or think less of you. I will genuinely become your number one fan – your new ride or die.
What Sets Me Apart As a Therapist?
In my work, I pull from different approaches, depending on my client’s needs, but there are two that I use most often.
The first is a person-centered approach, which means I won’t tell you what to do, but will actively give you feedback to get to the bottom of what makes you, you, and what gets in the way of you meeting your goals on your own.
The second is a narrative approach which utilizes techniques like looking at how the words you use for yourself and your experiences shape your mental health.
I emphasize authenticity in my work because trust doesn’t develop if you don’t feel like you have an open, honest relationship with me. I may be the expert on mental health, but you are the expert on YOU.
