Hello! My name is Kat, and I’m glad you’re here.

I have a master’s in counseling psychology from St.Thomas University and experience working with individuals ages 14 and older. I specialize in concerns about problematic substance use-whether you’re in the early stages of just wanting to discuss it, ready to begin the process of recovery, or need support for the recovery you’ve already started. I have a background of working with individuals diagnosed with serious and persistent mental illnesses such as bipolar (I and II), schizoaffective, major depressive disorder, and borderline personality disorder. I also enjoy helping those of you who struggle with interpersonal challenges such as people pleasing or difficulty with boundaries.

I consider myself an advocate for social justice. My office is a safe space for members of marginalized communities and those who have found it difficult to connect with therapists in the past or have felt unsupported by the mental health system.

How I Work

I find it very important to take the time to build an authentic relationship with you so that your treatment feels unique to you as a person. Using principles of emotion-focused therapy and cognitive-behavioral therapy, I adopt a balanced approach that combines a strong foundational rapport with empathetic constructive challenges.

In my work with you, I’ll educate you on the different therapeutic approaches that could be applied to your situation or symptoms. I’ll recommend which intervention I find most applicable, but overall I promote working collaboratively so you can make an informed decision about your treatment options.

First and foremost, my goal as a therapist will always be to ensure that any client I meet with gets where they need to be. Finding the right therapist is hard. I am always happy to assist you in finding the approach, style, or level of care you would benefit from even if I’m not ultimately the best fit for your situation.

What Sets Me Apart As a Therapist?

I employ a lot of metaphors, analogies, and visualizations as I find it helps make skills and abstract concepts more concrete. I also enjoy using pop culture references since it helps the concepts really stick. Make sure I know your favorite shows, movies, and music so I can be the most accurate!
