Welcome! My name is Scott, and I am a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker who provides therapy to adults and teens (15+), particularly in better exploring themselves and their connection to relationships around them. I believe in meeting people where they are at in their mental health journey. Outside of work, my hobbies include playing board and video games, reading fantasy/science-fiction books, watching the latest Marvel/DC/Star Wars films, spending time with my cats, and participating in a music group.
How I Work
I believe trust between client and therapist is the key to success and that this is achieved with an empathic and non-judgmental approach. I enjoy working with clients to better understand their own stories in their own environments which differ from person to person. I work with individuals to help themselves feel heard by both others and themselves. As part of this work, I will frequently weave in different coping and mindfulness skills as needed to help people better understand and self-regulate their emotions. I also “speak DBT” for those clients who have done this work in the past and would like to brush up on their skills, or for those who are hesitant on starting this work.
What Sets Me Apart As a Therapist?
I have been described as a very calming and grounding individual who is easy to talk with. I believe in being authentic with my clients, including the ability to both hold heavy topics together as well as laugh and have humor in a session. I also find it important for clients to feel comfortable bringing in metaphors that make sense to themselves, particularly geeky and nerdy metaphors.
